Why ZORA?
JUST A FOUR-LETTER-WORD
Back in 1998, founder Britta Boland registered the domain zora.com – simply following her intuition. She was drawn to the name because it was short, memorable, and worked equally well in English and German. Imagine that: at the time, it was still possible to claim just a four-letter domain!
ZORA NEALE HURSTON
When we first googled “ZORA” in 1998, one name stood out: Zora Neale Hurston, the celebrated American writer, folklorist, anthropologist, and filmmaker. Her most popular novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, was published in 1937 and remains a cornerstone of literature and cultural history.
DIE ROTE ZORA
Die rote Zora und ihre Bande (Red Zora and Her Gang) is a children's book by Kurt Held, first published in 1941. It tells the story of Zora and her band of orphaned children who sometimes bend the rules to survive. The story celebrates courage, respect, and collaboration.
ZORA LA VAMPIRA
In Italy, “ZORA” evokes Zora la Vampira, a cult erotic horror comic created in 1972 by writers Renzo Barbieri and Giuseppe Pederiali with artist Birago Balzano. Published by Edifumetto, some of the covers portraying the blonde heroine are said to resemble Catherine Deneuve.
